Artificial intelligence and learning process in library and information science students
Publicado
2026-06-19

Context: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming higher education environments, driving the need for new competencies among students in disciplines related to information management. Objective: To determine the relationship between knowledge of artificial intelligence and the learning process among Library and Information Science students at the National University of San Marcos (Peru) during 2025. Methodology: A quantitative, basic research approach was employed, utilizing a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational design. The sample consisted of 95 students selected through stratified probabilistic sampling. Data were collected using two Likert-scale questionnaires to measure AI knowledge and the learning process. Results: A significant and strong positive correlation was found between AI knowledge and the learning process (ρ=0.736; p<0.001). The dimensions of theoretical knowledge and experiential knowledge showed the greatest weight in the ordinal regression analysis. Conclusions: Strengthening AI competencies significantly enhances the learning process within university contexts linked to information management. It is recommended that AI training be systematically integrated into the curriculum to improve academic performance and prepare students for the technological challenges of the sector.
