Latin American scientific production on theatre as an academic and communicative tool: a bibliometric analysis
Publicado
2026-02-19

Artistic expressions are fundamental pedagogical tools and expressive means for holistic development. This study aimed to analyze the scientific production indexed in Scopus on theater as an academic and communicative tool in Latin America during the period 2021–2025. A descriptive bibliometric design was used; after refining an initial sample, 163 articles were analyzed using Bibliometrix, examining productivity, distribution, and dissemination channels to map the field and its geopolitical asymmetries. The results show solid growth (66%, 2021–25) and a defined interdisciplinary core, but also reveal a marked external dependence on authorship and funding, with Brazil as the only prominent regional representative. To reduce this asymmetry, it is recommended to implement specific funding policies in Latin America, strengthen intra-regional collaboration networks, and promote local indexed journals, thus ensuring autonomous and contextually relevant research.
