Context: Emotional intelligence (EI) and conflict management styles are pivotal constructs in higher education, significantly influencing students' social interaction, academic performance, and personal development. Objective: To analyze the mediating and moderating variables involved in the relationship between emotional intelligence and conflict management styles among university students. Methodology: A systematic review was conducted, encompassing 18 studies published between 2022 and 2026. The analyzed research primarily utilized cross-sectional quantitative designs and focused on Asian and Latin American contexts. Results: Key mediating variables were identified, including self-efficacy, emotional regulation, interpersonal communication, coping strategies, and empathy. Moderating factors included perceived stress and cultural influences. The findings indicate that emotional intelligence is positively associated with collaborative management styles, operating through the aforementioned mediators and being modulated by specific moderating factors. Conclusions: The relationship between emotional intelligence and conflict management styles in university students is multifaceted and driven by complex underlying mechanisms. This study underscores the need for integrative explanatory models and educational programs that incorporate these mediating and moderating pathways to enhance socio-emotional competencies and conflict resolution strategies in higher education.
